There’s no denying that remastering the right title can end up being money for jam, and seeing how much harder it is becoming for new IPs to break into the market of big franchises it’s no wonder that more publishers are looking back through their catalogue to find that revenue. I'm glad I picked it up.Some of us here at DYEGB are ardent detractors of the remaster program that has gained popularity amongst publishers this console generation. I'll remember TC as one goofy hilarious action game. It's got a unique charm and is definitely a guilty pleasure-type.
The best thing about the game is going through all the time zones and battling the various different enemies with cool weapons from that time frame.
In many ways you could almost classify it as a beat 'em up. Take Time Commando for what it is, and you may get quite a kick out of it. A deadly virus has invaded the militarys top secret super computer. I got my copy for 99 cents and can't complain now, can I? Would I recommend this game? If you're intrigued and can get it for $10 or less, sure, go for it. However, it scores points for originality, charm and fun in that "Its so goofy and bad it's almost good" kind of way. The control could use some work, and the camera can be a detriment at times. This is not a great game, or even a good game. The combat loses a bit of its charm and novelty after a while, and I found the later levels to be not nearly as fun as the earlier ones. Now, having said ALL of this, I do want to make this clear. Kicking him upside his head, he bounced back grunting. Then his friend popped out of the bushes and I took care of him as well. So I knew we weren't going to have tea and cookies. Suddenly an energy bar pops up, just like a beat 'em up. Another charm: how unintentionally funny it is. Pause the game and highlight the Sound FX option on the menu. It has a nice look… but then at the same time it's kinda crappy too. My bro walked in and laughed, saying, "Hey this looks realistic… then again it looks like someone made this in their garage!"
The first stage opens with you at the bottom of the screen, and up top is this burly brown caveman. Much to my surprise and delight, I had somewhat of a blast playing through it. Time Commando was mostly slammed by critics. When I fired it up for the first time, I had my reservations.
